a guilty conscience needs no accuser
Definition: if a person has done something wrong, that one will always have a bad feeling and even before they are being accused, they turn to confessing that they have nothing to do with that; the wrongdoer will say things which will reveal that they are guilty
Usage: when I came back from work, my daughter met me at the gate. her first words were “mummy, I did not eat any sweets”, then I knew that she did eat them, because they say a guilty conscience needs no accuser
