SBL hosts first Financial Inclusion Seminar

The Unisa Graduate School of Business Leadership (SBL) and Mazra Solutions successfully hosted a financial inclusion seminar on 9 November 2017 at the SBL campus in Midrand.

With the theme ‘’from better access to enhancing financial capability” the Seminar brought together individuals from the financial sector, including banks, insurance companies and their industry bodies, government, community organizations, and the media.

Dr Renosi Mokate, Executive Dean of Unisa SBL, formally welcomed participants to the seminar, followed by an address by Mr Muzi Mhlambi of the Banking Association of South Africa (BASA).

The seminar’s two panels discussed ‘The Business of Financial Inclusion’ and ‘Financial Literacy and consumer education’, respectively, in what were frank and constructive engagements by panellists with quality participation from the audience.

The objectives of the seminar mainly revolved around the following:

  • To reflect on the gains that have been made in the past decade and identify challenges in ‘financial inclusion’;
  • To provide a platform for different stakeholders engaged in financial inclusion activities to share information and knowledge on latest   developments, and
  • To enable the forging of partnerships for collaborative thinking and action to advance financial capability, financial consumer education and consumer protection in the country.

The SBL and Mazra and Associates plan to host a series events related to financial inclusion topics. The two organisations look forward to earnest and fruitful discussions, that will enrich national deliberations on the future of our financial sector and our economy at large.
