Chibuikem obtained doctorate in development studies from the university of Johannesburg. That was preceded by masters in the same discipline from the university of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). He previously earned bachelor of social sciences honours (cum laude) in international relations from UKZN. He also has bachelor of arts degree in philosophy (magna cum laude). He has published in renowned academic journals in his areas of research interests including social policy, development, agency, and informal economy.
