The students registered for Honours and Postgraduate Diplomas are welcome to the research training workshops. The training workshops are interdisciplinary and they should be accommodative to Honours and Postgraduate Diploma students with a research component in their modules across all colleges.
The main objectives of the Research Training Workshop are to:
- Familiarise Honours and PG Diploma students with the Unisa research environment and research ethics.
- Develop an understanding of meta-theories, theories, concepts, models, and trends within and beyond subject disciplines.
- Develop skills to utilise research resources such as the library and available research technologies.
- Familiarise students with methodological issues including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research methodologies.
- Provide information about the research process, the functions, and components of the research proposal as well as the research report.
The research training workshops will cover various themes including:
- Generic components of a research proposal
- Library as the foundation of the research process
- Academic writing skills
- Library Training: References Literature review
- Literature Review
- Quantitative/Qualitative Research approaches
- Ethics in research
- Similarity software and plagiarism
