Prof Owence Chabaya
Acting Director of the Centre for Academic Excellence at the University of Limpopo

Prof Owence Chabaya is the Acting Director of the Centre for Academic Excellence at the University of Limpopo, where she has served for six years. With a Ph.D. in Educational Management from the University of Fort Hare (2006), and earlier degrees in Teacher Education and Education from the University of Zimbabwe, her academic and professional journey spans extensive roles in higher education. Previously, Prof Chabaya has worked as a Senior Academic Developer and Academic Consultant at the University of Limpopo and the University of Fort Hare, respectively. Her tenure as a Senior Lecturer in Sociology of Education and various coordinator and lecturer roles in Curriculum Studies at the Zimbabwe Open University and Masvingo Teachers College are notable.

Her areas of expertise include Teacher Professional Development, Curriculum Development, and supporting staff and students in higher education environments. Prof Chabaya's research interests are focused on Gender and Education and issues pertaining to Higher Education. She has contributed significantly to academia with 40 peer-reviewed journal articles, 28 conference papers, five book chapters, and three books. She has supervised four Ph.D. students and fifteen Master's students, and served as an external examiner for 48 theses and dissertations across 14 universities worldwide.

Prof Chabaya has been recognized with the Vice Chancellor’s Award as the Best Female Researcher and Best Researcher in the Centre for Academic Excellence at the University of Limpopo in 2014.
