Writing exams

Part of preparing for your exams is knowing where you will write, when you will write, what you will write and what you need to take with you to your exams. It also involves understanding Unisa's exam rules and knowing who to contact should you need more information.

Our focus this week is on giving you some practical tips for writing exams.

Exam timetable

Your final exam timetable for this exam period is now available. Unisa has sent a secure PDF version of your exam timetable to your myLife e-mail account or you can login to myUnisa to download it. Please check your exam timetable carefully to confirm the venue and times for your respective exams. Also, make sure you are aware of Unisa's rules relating to exams.

What happens if I'm late for an exam or miss an exam?

Unisa has very specific rules regarding examination times and venues in order to create structure in what is already a very stressful situation.

Remember, you must be SEATED in the examination venue 15 minutes prior to the commencement time. It can be very disturbing to have students walking in and trying to get settled when the exam has already begun. If you are late, you will not be permitted to enter the venue or write the exam. The specific invigilator is not punishing you - he or she is just implementing the institutional rules. At that specific moment, as much as it is hard to accept the news that you cannot write the exam, it is also not effective for you to start an argument with the invigilator about allowing you to write the exam. It would be best that you start thinking about the options you have. Read more about your options should you be late for or miss an exam.

You have worked hard throughout the semester to prepare for your exam and it could be devastating to miss it because you arrive 15 minutes too late, for example.
