Jooste Van Aarde is a retired Deaf staff member of the University of South (UNISA). She studied Linguistics for degree purposes at UNISA and worked in the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages as a Deaf co-researcher. She was a coordinator and diplomatic mediator between lecturers, Doctoral and MA students, and the Deaf Community. She also offered informal Sign Language classes at UNISA for students and lecturers.
The Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages in collaboration with the Unit at UNISA will be launching a book titled ‘My Child is deaf or hard of What now?’ written by Ms Karina Jooste Van Aarde. The book offers well-researched information and guidance for hearing parents who are raising deaf or hard hearing children in South Africa.
