MOVING BEYOND COVID-19: SLP PROVISIONING FOR RE-SCHOOLED SOCIETY

Date:  25-27 August 2021
Venue: WOODLAND LOGDE PARYS VAAL

Background

The Centre for Continuing Education and Training (CCET), plays a pivotal role in the Short Learning Programme (SLP) teaching, by promoting of lifelong learning. Teaching, Learning, Research and Innovation are two pillars along community engagement, and we hold them in high regards as key performance areas of every academic at UNISA. The Centre holds annual conference with the aim of supporting academics to integrate the teaching of SLPs to their research, innovation and community engagement. To date we hosted three conferences: in 2015, 2017 and 2019. The 2021 4th Annual conference (August 25th – 27th. 2021), marks the climax of conversations, especially on how COVID 19 has changed our perspectives on our teaching practices, research and community engagement practices.

The Covid-19 Crisis has forced schools’ closures in many countries around the globe, heavily disrupting the learning process of more than 1.7 billion children, youth and their families (OECD 2020). Many countries had to resort to distance and online learning to salvage the academic year. However, there are debates on how much learners have learnt and what was the quality of their learning during Lockdown. We recognize and acknowledge that Covid-19 has destroyed so much and has revealed inequalities and injustices in our societies but it has also shed some path towards transformation of our education system.

The question we seek to address is how we build and develop our society through SLPs beyond Covid-19?

Objectives

The main objective of this conference is to create a platform for scholars, researchers, educators, students, professionals and other groups interested in teaching and learning  to engage in the conversations and debates on the theme:

“Moving beyond Covid-19 SLP Provisioning for re-schooled society”

In addition, the conference intends to:

  • Provide publication opportunity with Globe Edit publishers.
  • Provide a conducive environment for the participants to share experiences in SLP provisioning.
  • Provide opportunities to form partnerships among research participants.
