Unisa grads to be capped by Mbeki for the first time

Former President of the Republic of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki, recently appointed as Chancellor of Unisa, will officiate at his first university function when he presides over and confers degrees at a graduation ceremony to be held at the university’s main campus in Pretoria on 23 March 2017.

Prof Mandla Makhanya (Principal and Vice-Chancellor: Unisa) (left) caps former president Thabo Mbeki as the new Chancellor of Unisa.

“The management of the university, its staff and the entire student community are keenly looking forward to bearing witness to this momentous occasion, where our new chancellor performs his first official duty since his installation; particularly as this pertains to the conferring of degrees to graduates of our university,” said Unisa Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Mandla Makhanya.

Other graduation ceremonies where the new chancellor will officiate will be on Tuesday, 4 April; Wednesday, 12 April; and Wednesday, 03 May 2017 respectively.
