The Department of Economics has 18 staff members with doctoral qualifications, with numerous active researchers in a range of fields, including monetary economics, international trade and finance, fiscal policy, stock market development and financial sector development. The Department of Economics is fortunate to have a diverse research profile. The Deparment has expertise in fields such as the philosophy of economics, development economics and poverty, public finance, international trade policy, foreign aid, international finance, development finance, monetary economics, banking and financial markets, labour economics, health economics, environmental economics, and numerous topics in micro- and macroeconomics. The Department hosts the Macroeconomic Policy Analysis (MPA) research flagship programme, conducting cutting-edge macro-economic policy research necessary to provide timely scientific policy advice to African countries, in general, and to sub-Saharan African countries, in particular.
