Unisa and OR Tambo Foundation to host 4th Annual Memorial Lecture

On 18 October 2024, Unisa, in partnership with the Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Foundation, will host the 4th Oliver Reginald Tambo Annual Memorial Lecture, themed Integrating constitutionalism and ethical leadership to reclaim Africa’s intellectual futures, at the Muckleneuck Campus, Tshwane. The lecture commemorates the life and legacy of Oliver Reginald Tambo, a visionary leader and advocate for constitutionalism, democracy and ethical leadership.

The keynote address will be delivered by renowned Senior Council and Advocate, Leah Gcabashe, an accomplished member of the South African judiciary. Gcabashe has an extensive career dedicated to constitutional law, social justice and human rights. Her presentation will focus on how constitutionalism and ethical leadership can shape Africa’s future, drawing on the life and work of Oliver Tambo as a foundation for intellectual and leadership development on the continent.

Following the keynote address, the lecture will feature two prominent discussants:

  • Nomathemba Tambo, representing the Oliver Reginald Tambo Family, will share insights on Tambo’s enduring influence on today’s African leadership landscape, as well as personal reflections on his legacy.
  • Natasha Allie, Acting CEO of the Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Foundation, will provide remarks on how the foundation continues to promote Tambo's vision and ethical values. Allie will also discuss the relevance of Tambo’s leadership ideals in today’s efforts to advance intellectual and ethical growth in Africa.

The lecture promises to be a thought-provoking and vibrant discussion of the vital role of ethical leadership and strong constitutional frameworks in advancing Africa's intellectual futures.
