Purpose: Students will be equipped with knowledge and understanding of the present-day diversity of tradition in Christianity in the light of the formative developments during the early centuries. When one studies the history of the Church in Africa one looks at the rich heritage that has been woven like a tapestry with contributions from the early Church fathers and other Christian leaders. Just as each family history is unique, so the history of the Christian Church in Africa is not exactly the same as the history of the Christian Church in other parts of the world, even though there are similarities, and the Christian message remains the same.

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to enable students to reflect in faith, thought and historical ways on Jesus of Nazareth under the following headings: Sources, Everyday world of Jesus, Work and Ministry, Suffering (Cross), New Life (Resurrection). Students will be able to make sense and portray various sense making trajectories of Jesus in history, reflect on approaches of salvation and investigate and become aware of the linkage between the classical titles of Jesus and those from black African cultures. Qualifying students will b aware of and able to reflect and contextualise the main historical problem-settings around Jesus Christ.

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to facilitate students' learning in discovering the meaning of the church as a faith community in the context of society; reflecting on the influence culture has in terms of a person's personal faith-experience and the experience of faith within the context of a specific group of Christians, especially the church; understanding the significance of culture in terms of ecclesiological diversity and the call for unity in Christian circles.

Purpose: Qualifying students will be equipped with knowledge and skills which will enable them to explore the role Christianity played in South Africa and the impact of continuous societal changes on Christianity in South Africa. The activities contained in the study material are designed to assist the student in internalising the contents by way of a process of reading, reflection and action. This type of study goes much further than memorising the study material. The student will hopefully find that it facilitates a life enriching experience.

Purpose: The purpose of this module is to introduce students to the contemporary dialogue between science and theology, with particular emphasis on how this impacts on theological and moral questions on the environment. As such the module introduce students to the doctrine of creation by raising the particular questions which contemporary science and growing environmental problems pose to the Christian doctrine of the creation. The module attempt to make students aware of the importance of interdisciplinary dialogue in the study of theology, with a particular emphasis on the theological implications of interdisciplinary dialogue, but also pointing out its importance for ethical questions such as environmental destruction.

Purpose: The purpose of this module is to introduce, deepen, and broaden studentsメ understanding of the development and functioning of the concepts of Christian Change Agency and Ecumenism. The module also aims to assist students to become self-determined, competent Church Historians by introducing basic concepts and tools for historical research. Students who qualify in this module can promote the concept of ecumenism and act as agents of positive change in their faith- work- and living communities. The module provides students with knowledge, skills, competencies and capabilities to work with important concepts as Church Historians.

This module provides students with skills and competencies to become efficient writers of historical research reports.
