The Unisa Alumni Relations Division recently hosted an alumni cocktail event at the Radisson Blu Hotel (Lusaka) in Zambia. The event aimed to continue building on the networking activities with Zambian alumni and provide a platform for alumni to pursue the postgraduate opportunities that the university offers.
Tisangechi Sakala, convenor of the Zambian chapter, delivered an inspiring welcome address. She highlighted the chapter's significant achievements: "I would like to urge members of this chapter to actively participate in chapter activities, which include several community engagement activities planned for this year." She thanked those present for their contributions towards the current chapter community engagement project, which assists less fortunate learners with stationery.
Unisa's Marketing and Communication Department was represented by Anna Huma, who delivered the marketing address and focused on the opportunities available for postgraduate studies at Unisa. She walked attendees through the postgraduate application process and explained the South African Qualifications Authority's qualifications framework and accreditation process.
The Unisa Alumni Relations division manager, Amanda Tlale, chaired the question and answer session. Most attendees expressed a keen interest in pursuing postgraduate studies, with their questions primarily centred on this aspect of the event.
The event achieved the aims set, bolstering a total house attendance. Alumni also used the opportunity to network further with fellow university graduates. The Alumni Relations division staff members identified several opportunities to enhance the university's offerings and collaborate with alumni in Zambia. Attendees praised Unisa for organising the event and expressed interest in running local projects and programmes that will enhance the Unisa brand. This initiative reflects the dedication and commitment of Unisa's diverse and engaged alumni community.
