Media Advisory - Seasoned Scholar Prof Mamadou Diouf to deliver Speech at Unisa 2021 Founders Lecture

The University of South Africa (Unisa) will be hosting a virtual/Hybrid 2021 Founders Lecture on Tuesday 7th December 2021 at 19:00 under the theme: Explorations in “Reclaiming Africa’s futures”: The Sources of African Humanities.

The Founders Lecture was introduced at Unisa in 2003 and aims to encourage the University and its stakeholders to focus on critical issues in higher education at both global and national levels. Over the years a variety of topics, presented by eminent and renowned scholars from across the Continent and the globe, have established the Founders Lecture as a premium forum for intellectual engagement of the highest order.

Seasoned scholar and well-travelled academic, Prof Mamadou Diouf from Columbia University will deliver this year ‘s keynote address. Apart from obtaining his PhD in History from the University of Paris-Sorbonne 41 years ago, Prof Diouf is the Leitner Family Professor of African Studies and History, Middle East and South Asian and African Studies (MESAAS) in the History Department at the Columbia University, in New York, USA. Prior to teaching at Columbia University, he taught at the University of Michigan as well as at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, Senegal.
